How we source, verify, and update our alerts.
News and Life is a summariser and aggregator, not a primary news organisation. Our editorial standards reflect that role.
Sourcing
Each alert is based on one or more of the following:
- Official statements from the Singapore Police Force, SCDF, LTA, NEA, or other public agencies.
- Reports published by established Singapore news outlets, including CNA, The Straits Times, TODAY, and Mothership.
- Community and reader submissions, which are clearly labelled and verified where possible.
We link to the original source in every alert where a public link exists.
Verification
Before publishing, we verify:
- That the incident location and date are corroborated by at least one independent source, where possible.
- That claims about identity, motive, or outcome are attributed to a named source (agency, publication, or eyewitness).
- That no ongoing legal restrictions (e.g. gag orders, sub judice considerations) prevent publication of specific details.
Updates and follow-ups
Alerts are updated as new information becomes available. Each update is timestamped in Singapore time (SGT / GMT+8). We do not silently rewrite published pieces; substantive changes are noted.
Corrections
Errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed. Corrections are logged on our Corrections page and, where the correction is significant, noted on the original alert.
Language and tone
We avoid sensationalism, graphic descriptions, and speculation. Our tone is neutral, and we prefer plain English over jargon.
Advertising and independence
News and Life may run advertising or contextual promotions on its pages. Advertising has no influence on editorial decisions. Sponsored content, where present, is clearly labelled.
